InfraGard is a cooperative undertaking between the U.S. Government (led
by the FBI and the NIPC) and an association of businesses, academic
institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other
participants dedicated to increasing the security of United States
critical infrastructures.

The SANS (System Administration, Networking and Security) Institute was
established in 1989 as a cooperative research and education
organization. The SANS Institute enables more than 156,000 security
professionals, auditors, system administrators, and network
administrators to share the lessons they are learning and find solutions
to the challenges they face.

The President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection was the
first national effort to address the vulnerabilities created in the new
information age. The Commission, established in July, 1996, by
Presidential Executive Order 13010, was tasked to formulate a
comprehensive national strategy for protecting the infrastructures we
all depend on from physical and "cyber" threats.

The National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC). Located in the
FBI's headquarters building in Washington, D.C., the NIPC brings
together representatives from U.S. government agencies, state and local
governments, and the private sector in a partnership to protect our
nation's critical infrastructures. Established in February 1998, the
NIPC's mission is to serve as the U.S. government's focal point for
threat assessment, warning, investigation, and response for threats or
attacks against our critical infrastructures.
